Violence Against Men
If you want
to find an example of ultra-successful brainwashing of
the public by the media, you need look no further than
the subject of domestic violence; though I have to admit
that child abuse runs it a close second. If you ask the
man-in-the-street what he thinks domestic violence is,
he will probably tell you that it is men attacking women
within the family. If you further ask him why he thinks
this, he will tell you that he has heard it many times
in TV news broadcasts, read about it in newspapers and
magazines and has seen adverts about it on television.
Exactly! In a word he has been brainwashed and, sadly,
he is by no means alone; he is in the company of his
wife, his neighbours, his children’s teachers, his bank
manager and countless politicians. They are all totally
ignorant of the true facts about domestic violence. So
where can these poor beleaguered souls discover the
truth about this important problem which constantly
batters their ears and eyeballs? The sad answer is, it’s
all around them if only they use their eyes and their
ears.
In January 1999 the UK Government’s Home Office
published the results of a survey into domestic
violence. It was the biggest ever carried out anywhere
in the world and involved more than 10,000 men and
women. It was called Study 191 and it stated, quite
categorically, that 4.2% of men and 4.2% of women
perpetrate the crime of domestic violence. In other
words they had discovered that men and women are equally
violent.
Surprised?
Don’t be.
It’s nothing new and to my knowledge (and to anyone
else’s who has researched the matter) it has been known
for at least 30 years.

Government Policies made on
'Women's Aid Myths'
Lord Justice Wall slams Women's
Aid grossly inaccurate figures
A senior family judge has rebuffed
implications in a report on domestic violence that
judges’ indifference to the safety of children resulted
in homicides that could have otherwise been avoided. The
report, published by Women’s Aid in 2004, investigated
29 cases of children whose parents were separated or
divorced and who were killed by their fathers as a
result of contact arrangements. Of those, the report
identified only five cases where the contact arrangement
were the result of a court order.

Home Office
"I would like to assure
you that the Government is very committed to tackling
domestic violence and bringing those who are
perpetrators to justice. Women experiencing domestic
violence are especially vulnerable while they are at
work because once a woman attempts to leave an abusive
partner; the workplace often becomes the only place
she can be located and harmed."

"Our main source of
information is the British Crime Survey: Inter-Personal
Violence Module 2001, which is the most robust source of
data on domestic violence. The report shows that 1 in 4
women and 1 in 6 men will suffer domestic violence
throughout their lifetime. However, when you look more
closely at the statistics, they
illustrate that 89% of those suffering 4 or more
attacks, are women." |

"Women are also more
likely to suffer greater injury and be classes
as chronic victims. In addition, women are often
forced to escape
from perpetrators with their children. The government,
through local
authorities, has a duty of care to provide access to
emergency
accommodation to ensure that children are protected. The
fact that
there are over 500 schemes is an illustration of the
extent of the
problem."

"Therefore, we make no
apology for concentrating our limited
resources on those sections of the population who are
suffering most
hardship. (Women) However, the government does take the
issue of male victims seriously. That is why the
Domestic Violence, Crime & Victims, Act, was designed to
be deliberately gender neutral and we expect all the
victims of domestic violence to be taken seriously by
all services, particularly criminal justice agencies."
