Thank you for sending me a copy of the letter which you have received
from Gray and Connochie. They have not responded to my letter which was
sent last week so it seems they have decided to write to you directly.

It is up to you to decide how you respond but I would be happy to
respond, but in the first place I have got to say to you that it is a
standard solicitor's letter. I think you have enough experience now of
how solicitors operate. It is basically set out their client's case
which is obviously not going to be the same as yours so I would not too
upset about it. You have decided that you want the matter of contact to
be determined in the Scottish courts and you are perfectly entitled to
insist on that. I don't know what happened in court on Monday but I have
asked the office to contact you to arrange for us to meet next week. I
am sorry I am completely tied up this week but it is important to
reflect a little on the points we are making before we respond.

I am also attaching a copy of the letter which has been sent to the Lord
Chancellor.  I have included your changes and also added one or 2 others
to sharpen the letter, including a reference to the 1986 Act.
